Do you know the secret to a truly wonderful, community-building, wholesome good-time Pride Festival? Volunteering!  Yes, this mega-party is organized by a handful of volunteers each year.

We need volunteers to help with a range of tasks at the dance. To volunteer at Sunday in the Park with Pride or Read Out Loud, contact editor@prideguide.ca.

It’s a very small time commitment, but without volunteers, PRIDE wouldn’t happen. Join the fun! Good Times Guaranteed!!!

We’re looking for people for 1-hour shifts for the following super-easy jobs:

PRIDE DANCE JOBS, JUNE 25, 2016

SET-UP and DECORATING

Make a lasting impression.

Maybe you think you’re ready for your interior design debut on the Home Channel, but we’re looking for muscle, masking-tape talent and a flair for lighting candles. Is this you?

Time: pre-party for about an hour.

FRONT DOOR ADMISSION

You may prefer to play at the back door, but we need you up front.
Take tickets, sell tickets, do it with a buddy.

Time: 8 pm – 11 pm, 1 hour shifts. (Other hours are already covered.)

DRINK TICKET SALES

Best view to peruse the, ahem…menu.
Sit at the drink ticket table, yak, flirt, take fivers in exchange for a drink ticket. Can you count to five? Great! You can do this job!

Time: 8 pm – 12 am, 1 hour shifts.

SECURITY

Frisking privileges optional.
Bring out your inner bouncer and say things like, “Can’t take that drink outside — whaddaya say you stay here and enjoy it with me?” It’s that easy folks. You also get to wear a snazzy hot pink arm band. For this security gig, contact thegayvolunteer@gmail.com.

Time: 8 pm – 1 am, 1-hour shifts. Split shifts okay, too.

FLOOR KITTENS

Just make sure the recycling bin hasn’t fallen over. If it does, panic, then pick it up.

Time: All night, but mostly it’s about looking good.

CONCIERGE

The responsible one.

You’re all class. We slap on the icing and you place the cherry on top. You will look after any special needs and details that we may have overlooked. “Excuse me, does this wheelchair ramp go to the Pride Dance?”

Time: All night, but it’s about looking with-it.

AMBASSADOR

Remember how it felt the first time you entered a gay space? Did you feel a little, well, lost in space? Welcome new people to our community by being your fabulous, outgoing and friendly self.

To sign up, contact thegayvolunteer@gmail.com!

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH PRIDE JOBS, JUNE 19, 2016

To volunteer for Sunday in the Park with Pride & The Little Pride Parade, contact editor@prideguide.ca.

SET-UP CREW

10 a.m.: Tents, a first-aid station, lawn games and other things that may pop up. Are you the “Here, let me do it,” person?

PARADE CREW

11:45-12:30 p.m.: Wanna be the first ever Sunshine Coast Pride Parade Marshall? Or perhaps you’re more of an in-the-wings person who just wants to make sure nobody gets so swept up wih their pride that they go skipping a little too enthusiastically, trip and fall on the driftwood fort. This is the job for you!

GAMES SUPERVISOR

Lawn darts, croquet, Frisbee, field games. Are you good at saying things like “Don’t hit your brother with the Frisbee,” or “Yes! We have more Frisbees!” Since CasPier Catering is on site, there is no reason these games should have anything to do with hunger.

STRIKE CREW

4-5 p.m.: Make the park nice and clean again. We’re looking for a few people to help pack things up.
